I am currently reading my way through Newsweek's Top 100 Books and am really enjoying it overall. But how in the world did some of these books ever make it to the list? I almost skipped over Lolita, but ended up finishing it last night in a marathon read, just to get it overwith. I'll admit that the writing is intelligent, well-crafted, clever, darkly humorous and often poetic, but the subject matter...just ick. I finished The Iliad last week so I think I'll start on The Odyssey next and seque into James Joyce's Ulysses while the Greek heroes are fresh in my mind. I have been writing my book reviews on goodreads.com and facebook, but I am behind. I've caught up on my blog, so maybe I will catch up on my reviews today as well. I don't have any major family news right now. The kids started back to school last month. I think this is Eva's busiest year so far. I thought seniors were supposed to have more free time! She is skating in the morning now, before school. I never thought I'd see the day she could get herself out of bed by 5. haha This morning I didn't even hear her leave. She has started the college application process applying to Cal State Fullerton and she hopes to apply to two other local schools. I'm thinking Fullerton is her best bet anyway, since she could walk to class if she had to. Eric is really enjoying his Val Tech classes, especially Media Production. He is also taking AP European History, which should be fun as he already knows so much on the subject. He is playing viola in Chamber Orchestra, which means he has one afternoon class but only has two days of zero period this year. Yay! The Homecoming dance is coming up soon. Eva and I are trying to get Eric to go. It's at the science museum...you'd think that would have enticed him! On the homefront, the dogs are getting along well. The only problem is that they make so much noise when they play that we keep them apart quite often just so that we don't have to listen to them. Mo has grown quite a bit and is in need of a new crate. Luckily we borrowed the one he is using. I don't think he's going to grow too much more, either. |
